About Us
THE STORY OF THE OLD CAR SOCIAL CLUB.
The old Car Social Club was formed by a group of 5 couples in August 1996. Our meetings consisted of a lot of discussions on how to get 'the Club' formed with our rules and regulations.
The first meeting was held at a member's home and now we have progressed to the Canley Heights RSL and Sporting Club Limited where we hold our monthly meetings. Usually there are about 60 members who attend regularly.
The vehicles the Foundation Members started off with, were a 1938 Ford Business Sedan, 1938 Ford Coupe, 1932 8.50 Buick, 1946 Ford Convertible, 1928 Chrysler 65, and a 1953 FJ Holden Modified under restoration.
Our Club is open to all original and modified makes and models and also to persons who have a passion for the preservation and restoration of modern and historic vehicles. We also focus on the family and social aspect.
The first Club outing was to Yestergrange, Bullaburra and Wentworth Falls on the 29th September, 1996. Eight Foundation Members attended that day and was the beginning of many social outings to come about in the future. Over the years we have had great outings to, such as, weekends away to Mudgee, Canberra, Bathurst, Fish 'N' Chip runs, twilight runs, ghost tours, car shows, Motorfest, etc.
The main event for our Club each year is our 'Annual Show and Shine Car Show' held every May. The first show was held on 15th February 2004 at the Flower Power grounds Moorebank, with 39 entrants. Since then, we have changed the venue to Canley Heights RSL & Sporting Club Ltd and it has now grown to approximately 150 entrants. A large variety of vehicles attend ranging from 1920 to present day, each unique in its' own way. For example: 1932 Buick, 1939 Ford Coupe Utility, 1954 Ford Crestline, 1961 Austin Cambridge, 1996 Ford Fairmont. Holden, Gemini, Falcon, VW Kombi Vans, Morris Minor, Muscle cars, British, European and American Sports Cars, Utes and Commercial.
The Show and Shine would not be as successful without the generous support of our many sponsors who enable the day to be a financial success. Profits raised on the day are donated to Diabetic Awareness.
The Old Car Social Club today has grown significantly over the years, where we have made firm and lasting friendships. New members will always be made welcome and included in all club outings and activities. Between us we have discovered many wonderful and interesting places together around the state. Amongst our members we have a variety of assorted cars and some are on Historic Registration.
